Sakhi’s Collection
The new collection has a touch of glamour added by this season’s most preferred fabric called Shimmer Georgette. Chandra has created numerous interesting and unique colour palettes, both for day wear and glamorous evening wear. The day wear has the plain matt side featuring Banaras Brocade detailing, and the same saree can be worn with the Shimmer side for a glamorous occasion. These designer sarees are accompanied by Banaras brocade blouses in co-ordinated colours of the season like Brilliant Reds, Beige, Chocolate brown, peacock inspired blue and green hues, burnt orange, bottle Greens, fuscia pinks and many more to choose from. And the classic Kanchivarams are a staple for all seasons; in sticking new hues ranging from classic creams, baby pinks and blues for a day occasions to classic blacks, Magenta and dash of brilliant yellow to choose from for more formal evening functions.
Each creation that flows out of Designer Chandra Rajendran’s boutique Sakhi, is a new-age expression of age-old tradition. Sakhi’s creations are designed keeping in mind the modern woman and her idea of wearable fashion. Sakhi blends traditional techniques with innovative ideas to create sarees and salwars that are both beautiful and unique. This festive season, Chandra has re-invented the saree in numerous design concepts. “I wanted to create something completely different this season; question the ordinary and explore how best one can experiment with the humble Indian Saree in terms of texture and treatment. Why can’t one fuse classic Kanchivaram with plush Velvet, the flavor of the season, or for that matter, combine French Chantilly Lace with Indian Chiffon silk or introduce a coarse fabric like jute into delicate Banaras silk. I have also experimented with wearing the saree in multiple ways to create two or even four unique looks from the same saree”, says Sakhi’s chief designer Chandra.
Perfectly completing accessories are critical to complete the look, a new addition this season – go traditional with trendy brocade clutches, potlies featuring bangle like Kada handles or choose from a range of roughed clutches with diamante work on them for glamorous night out. Also available is a stunning range of Terracota jewellery inspired by heirloom jewels of regal India of yester years. Bold Jhoomkas, peacock inspired mohp malas and earrings in colours of the season- Reds, Greens, Blue and Black with a touch of gold painting.
Cut work is a Sakhi specialty which finds expression in an array of fabrics, from elegant tussars to light chiffons, from gorgeous crêpes to timeless kanchivarams, delicate, lace-like embroidery which involves intricate hand work and a keen eye. This season Sakhi re-invents cut work technique by fusing different fabrics using appliqué technique.
The launch of Sakhi’s latest collection is an occasion to fall in love with elegant pure silks embellished with contemporary motifs, intricate embroidery and cut work. Pamper your artistic side with stunning mirror work on kanchivaram, floral cut work and tussar silk with tissue appliquéd pallavs. Stimulate your imagination with ‘concept sarees’ like the ‘rising design’ saree and the ‘partly pallav’ saree, to name a few.
Choose from a wide range of sarees designed for the Modern Indian Woman…. |
