AAA Reveals that Private Equity is Investing in UK Financial Services

Boston, Massachusetts, July 01, 2011 -- Alternative Asset Analysis has revealed figures that show private equity firms are increasingly investing in the UK financial services industry.

According to AAA (Alternative Asset Analysis), an organisation that analyses and advocates alternative investments options, two thirds of the Private Equity houses surveyed by Grant Thornton said that they were intending to invest in financial services firms based in the UK.

Grant Thornton’s Head of Financial Services, Peter Allen, said, "Our survey indicates that there is a renewed interest in PE houses investing in FS firms with 90 per cent of respondents predicting increased private equity activity in this sector.

"This has been a long time coming since the banking crisis of 2008. While it is good news that there is this renewed interest in the FS sector, the appetite to invest is significantly lower than that shown in other sectors including media and support services.”

Private equity is a growing area of alternative investment, said AAA’s analysis partner Anthony Johnson, who is keen to promote private equity as a viable investment option, alongside real estate investment funds, forestry investment funds and currencies. “Private equity’s decision to increase its exposure to financial services means that those investing in private equity houses can expect their returns to increase providing the economy continues to grow.

“However, investments in emerging economies hold more excitement for many in the alternatives market as the prospect for growth is exceptional,” he added.

Firms including Greenwood Management and Ethical Forestry Investment are offering people the chance to make a real difference with their investment. Managed, sustainable forestry is helping to reduce deforestation in Brazil and, in turn, is enabling the country to benefit from the rising demand for timber and timber products, explained AAA.

Although the UK financial services industry could hold some very real prospects for growth in the coming years as the nation becomes less skeptical of banks and more confident in their economy, emerging markets are where the real money is to be made, according to AAA.
