This release covers the advantages and disadvantages of flamenco regarding guitar solos. The genre doesn't offer many native opportunities for improvisation, but things are rapidly changing.

"In flamenco", Hober begins, "fixed forms dictate how a song must be carried out. This is very helpful to both the instrumentists as well as the singers and dancers. But while this is useful in the actual playing of the music, it is very dampening to a guitarists capability to do a flamenco guitar solo. These styles are not so open to improvisation, unlike jazz for instance"

While in jazz every song has the theme of improvisation, in flamenco there are few styles built for that, so improvising on a flamenco song is generally much tougher. However the fusion between jazz and flamenco has already been made by Paco de Lucia, John Mclaughlin and Al Di Meola. Probably the best guitar trio the world has yet to see. Well developed in the art of improvisation, both Al Di and John hold the big spot in this. With their help Paco de Lucia has succeded in creating a new style of flamenco.

These new falsetas (flamenco guitar solos) have made this music new and interesting for many artists. Nowadays more and more people enjoy flamenco and the style has expanded all around the world. Though currently no other guitarist can match the Spanish people, things are looking forward for an upset in that department too.

The only downside, however, is one that Hober points out "even these falsetas are pretty much mapped-out. Though a guitarist can try and compose his own, this is much more difficult than playing what is standard; so you hear a lot of the same variations every day" This is because of the general fear of new and also a lack of motivation for compositions.
